Common questions
The app can't find a face in my photo
Use a clear, front-facing photo with even lighting where your whole face is visible. Very dark photos, strong side lighting, sunglasses, extreme angles, or a face that is small in the frame can all prevent a confident measurement.
My result changed between two photos
This is expected with any single-photo measurement. Camera distance, head tilt, whether the phone was above or below eye level, lighting, and expression all change what a flat image shows. For the most comparable results, hold the phone at eye level, roughly an arm's length away, face the camera straight on, and keep a relaxed, closed-lip expression.
Does a beard, glasses, or a headscarf affect results?
A heavy beard can make the chin point less certain. Glasses are usually fine. When the app cannot place a point confidently, it will tell you rather than guessing.
How do I delete my data?
PhiFace stores nothing on our servers — there are no accounts and no uploads. The app keeps no scan history: closing the result screen discards the measurements. To remove the downloaded measurement software, clear the app's storage in your phone's settings, or uninstall the app, which deletes all associated local data.
Does the app work offline?
Mostly. The measurement software (about 3 MB) downloads the first time you start a scan and is then reused from the app's cache, so later scans normally work offline. If your phone clears that cache, the next scan needs a connection once more. The measurement itself always runs on your device.
Reporting a bug
Please email us with: what you did, what you expected, what happened instead, your device model and OS version, and a screenshot if you have one. Please do not send photographs of your face — we do not need them and would rather you kept them.
Accessibility
We aim to support system text sizing, sufficient colour contrast, and screen readers. If you hit an accessibility barrier, tell us at hello@phiface.app and we will prioritise it.
